Woohoo!

Yesterday, I counted up all the money Body & Soul members and friends have raised for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital this year.

Once again, we surpassed our goal! Our 2010-2011 donation to St. Jude will be $1602, beating last year's total of $1451.

I am really proud of the fact that, each year, we have been able to improve upon our total.

2004-2005 - $  515
2005-2006 - $  770
2006-2007 - $ 1015
2007-2008 - $ 1289
2008-2009 - $ 1304
2009-2010 - $ 1451
2010-2011 - $ 1602

I sincerely thank everyone who helped make that possible.

Everyone who has participated in our fundraising over the years should be really proud of what we've accomplished. In speaking to folks at St. Jude they are always impressed by how much Body & Soul, a smaller gym, raises.

St. Jude is the first and only pediatric cancer center to be designated as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute. In its 2010-2011 rankings, St. Jude was named the #1 children's cancer hospital in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.

Researchers at St. Jude freely share discoveries with scientific and medical communities around the world. St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatment not covered by insurance. No child is ever denied treatment because of the family's inability to pay.

Thanks!

There's still some money left to come in but so far we raised over $750 for St. Jude Children's Hospital with our workouts on Saturday.

Thank you to everyone who participated. Here's a group photo of the 10:00 AM group. Unfortunately, I forgot to snap one of the 9:00 AM group but I did get some video of them.

Congratulations to country singer, John Rich, for winning Celebrity Apprentice last night. His charity was St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. So, besides all the money John raised all season long for St. Jude, they will now receive an additional $250,000 because he won.

People often ask me why I raise money, year after year, for St. Jude. Here's one reason, a Facebook comment I read this morning about John Rich's win and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital...

God Bless you John Rich!! I don't think you will ever know how many lives the blessings from your hard work will benefit! I am alive today thanks to the work done at St. Jude. I was diagnosed with CML at the age of 19 and given less than ...2 years to live.

We never could have afforded the hundreds of thousands of dollars that two other cancer centers were asking for, up front, to evaluate me to see if I was eligible for a bone marrow transplant to save my life. My oncologist took a chance, made a call, and St. Jude accepted me as a patient, NEVER asking for a dime.

I have been cancer free for 17 years thanks to St. Jude. None of their work would be possible without the fundraising/contributions made by countless selfless, caring individuals, including you Mr. Rich! Congratulations! Love and prayers to all the patients, families, and staff at St.Jude!

What Kind Of Pathetic Excuse For A Human Being Would Do This?

Update 2-25-10: Today I posted flyer #5. Too bad for this troll that people are continuing to sign up for Saturday and recruiting their friends.

Apparently, there is some pathetic excuse for a human being who keeps stealing my Zumba Party for St. Jude flyer from Starbucks in Stonemill Plaza. On Sunday, I placed my 4th flyer there in less than 2 weeks. Who knows how many more I would have posted by now if I went there every day. (I'm not a coffee drinker.)

I double checked when the same thing happened to my 12 Days of Fitness for ALS flyer at Christmas. There are no restrictions and Starbucks employees don't remove anything from the bulletin board. Stuff that was there when I put my first flyer up is still there. And, there are pull-off tabs on the flyer so it's safe to assume that it's not being done by people who are interested in attending.

Years ago, the same disappearing flyer act happened with one of my first St. Jude events. That time they were removed from Giant, again in Stonemill Plaza. It's really hard to believe that anyone would intentionally try to deny children with cancer or adults with ALS desperately needed research money but, sadly, that seems to be the case.

Regardless, I am determined to raise as much money as possible for St. Jude so if you live around Lancaster, PA, please consider attending on Saturday morning. People will be Zumba-ing from 9:00-11:00. Stay for the entire 2 hours or drop in for however long you like. I will be providing free bottled water.

Donation is $15 or you can get sponsors if you prefer. please spread the word to your friends, family and co-workers.

We Did It!

For those of you who haven't made it to the gym this week, I want to let you know that we surpassed our goal! We raised $1304 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, beating last year's total of $1289. Thanks to everyone who helped make that possible.

Body & Soul members and friends should be really proud of that figure. In speaking to folks at St. Jude they are always impressed by how much Body & Soul, a smaller gym, raises.

I think there's a good chance that, overall, donations to St. Jude are down this year so I'm extremely happy that we were able to send them a few dollars more than last year.

See Les Miz Tonight At The Fulton - Really, This Time

I screwed up.

The Les Miz tickets referenced in the post below were not for last night (Friday); they are for tonight (Saturday, June 13th at 8:00 PM). Yesterday morning the member who donated them told me "tonight" (or that's what I heard in my head) and I never even looked at the actual tickets until one of my training clients pointed it out to me.

So, the bidding begins anew. Oh well, at least some of you who were interested but not available can bid now. Just call me Pollyanna. :-)

These are great seats and you also get 2 drink coupons with them. The face value of each is $32 and I'm pretty sure they would be a lot more if they hadn't been purchased in a season ticket package.

I'll try to update the blog with the current high bid but I will be leaving Body & Soul at 12:00 noon. If it's after 12:00 and you want to bid, leave a message at the gym.

Remember, all proceeds benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

The current high bid is $30.

See Les Miz Tonight At The Fulton

I have received 2 tickets to Les Miserables tonight at the Fulton and am auctioning them off to the highest bidder to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. A Body & Soul member generously donated the tickets and is also throwing in two free refreshment coupons.

According to the member, these are "the best seats in the house" (her and her late husband have been Fulton season ticket holders since the 50's).

How about it? Enjoy great entertainment while helping critically ill kids. It only opened last night and I've heard really good things about the show. The newspaper's review was very positive, too

If you're in the Lancaster area, please spread the word. Highest bid takes them.

As of now, the highest bid I have received is $50.

I will closing bidding at 4:00 PM so that the winner has plenty of time to get ready, pick up the tickets, etc. Post here, e-mail or call me at (717) 509-7777 by 4:00 with your final bid.

Cash only, please.
