Apparently, C.B.'s web guy got his days mixed up and took down the special offer a day early. I'm not surprised, I get my days mixed up all the time and then when you start talking about special offers ending at midnight, it gets even more confusing.

Anyway, if you missed it, you have just over an hour to take advantage of this great deal.

- TT Metabolic Resistance Training Workouts (2011's hottest program)
- TT 15-Minute MRT Workouts (fast workouts for the holidays)

Burn Holiday Belly Fat

The holiday season is in full swing. Schedules will be hectic, kids will be on break, they'll be parties and Christmas cookies.

This is no time to abandon your workouts but your time may definitely be more limited than usual. What to do?

If you're a member of Body & Soul Fitness or a Lancaster resident, I can design a home workout based on what equipment (if any) you have.

If that's not an option, Craig Ballantyne, creator of Turbulence Training is running a great promotion on workouts you can do at home with little or no equipment.

What's The Best Fitness Program For Me?

Everyone is different. That's not exactly breaking news but it is important to consider your strengths and weaknesses, personality, likes and dislikes, lifestyle, etc. when you're deciding upon a fitness program.

At Body & Soul Fitness Studio, I offer a variety of ways to help you meet your health and fitness goals. It's important to choose the one that's right for you.

Want personal instruction but enjoy the camaraderie of a group setting?

Looking for a challenging workout and fast results? Need accountability?

No Pink Dumbbells Boot Camp might be right for you.

Let's say you want personal instruction and accountability but your schedule won't accommodate boot camp. Grab a friend or two and do personal training. If that won't work, you can go it alone with one-on-one training.

Have a crazy schedule or just prefer to work out on your own?

A Body & Soul gym membership could be your best option. Each member receives a workout designed specifically for her, based on her personal goals, current fitness level, medical/injury issues, available time, exercise experience, etc. but you work out on your own schedule.

What if you want to exercise at home?

While I believe there are definite advantages to boot camp, personal training, or a gym membership, if you have the motivation to go it alone, I can design a program for you. Regardless of whether you have lots of equipment or none at all, I can create a balanced, effective program that's right for you.

The most important thing is to take action. Do something that fits in with your personality so that you can make it a habit.

Call me at (717) 509-7777 to discuss how best to incorporate fitness into your lifestyle.

Can't Get To the Gym? Try This Bodyweight Workout

A large number of local Twitter regulars are sick. This morning I saw a post by a woman (who is not sick) who wanted to go to her gym but was afraid because of what her 2 year old might pick up at the gym's daycare.

Don't be fooled into thinking that you need a bunch of equipment to get a good workout. If you want to keep up with your exercise program but are in the same boat as the above Tweep, here's a no-equipment home, outdoor or travel workout.

Prisoner Squats
Pushups (whatever kind you can do- regular, knee, incline)
Lying Hip Bridge
Plank to Pushup*
Prisoner Lunges (pick one- front, rear, stationary)
Spiderman Climbs

Do all 6 exercises with minimal rest between them. Base the number of repetitions on your current fitness level, with a maximum of 15 reps or 15 per side. Depending upon your weak areas and fitness level, you may be able to perform fewer reps of some of the exercises and more of others. That's O.K., just make sure you concentrate on good form and challenge yourself.

Rest 30-60 seconds as needed and repeat the circuit up to a total of 6 times.

*If Plank to Pushups are too difficult for you, substitute Bird Dogs or Inchworms.

Let me know what you think.

Membership Has Its Benefits

Recently, there's been an increase in the number of online fitness pros slamming working out in a gym. It's annoying but I totally get it.

They've done their research and they're very aware of the all-too-prevalent fear some people have of joining a fitness center.

They've created a product (at-home workouts or equipment) to appeal to those people. Now, they're pushing the buttons of their target market. Since many people are already apprehensive about going to a gym, these marketers, I mean fitness pros demonize the health club setting.

I'm the first person to tell you that you don't need a bunch of equipment to lose weight and get in shape. Even though I own a gym, I will never pretend that you can't get a great workout outside or at home.

I am also very aware that some fitness centers do a lousy job educating members and making them feel at home. So, while I won't say it's true for every gym, I do believe that there can be definite advantages to working out at facilities like Body & Soul and here's why...

* You will get a solid, well balanced, effective workout program. Too many people piece together a strength training program willy-nilly. For optimum benefits and lowest risk of injury, use a professionally designed routine.

* Social support from like-minded people. You can commiserate with other members about certain exercises that your evil trainer includes in your program. :-) Body & Soul is like Cheers; other members know you by name and ask about you when they haven't seen you in a while. If you miss too many workouts, you'll get an e-mail or call from me.

* Fewer distractions. Working out at home can be great but way too many people (especially women) end up skipping workouts because the phone rings or their kids need something or because a chore needs to be done around the house. You deserve some time to yourself to take care of yourself.

* Form check. If you're performing an exercise incorrectly, I'll let you know. Unless you've been working out for years, reading about an exercise and doing it with good form are often two different things.

* Variety. You probably don't have a fully equipped gym in your home. Being able to challenge your muscles with a wide variety of exercises is better for you physically and it prevents boredom.

* Encouragement. You'll be regularly reminded to challenge yourself by increasing your weights, learning new exercises, working harder, etc. Too often, when exercising on their own, people end up just going through the motions.

Those are a few advantages to working out in a fitness center, or at least in mine. If you prefer exercising at home, regularly do so and are getting results, good for you. I'm all for people exercising period. The point of this article was to show the positive aspects of being a member of a place like Body & Soul.

Quickie Workout

Here's a quick and simple strength training workout that I designed for my sister-in-law on Christmas. She's doesn't have much exercise experience and her equipment is limited to a stability ball and two pairs of dumbbells.

Perform 10 reps of each exercise (10 on each side for the Lunges), moving from one to the next with little or no rest in between.

* Bodyweight or DB Static Lunge (Also known as Split Squat or Stationary Lunge)
* DB Chest Press on Ball (Make sure your head and neck are supported on the ball and the rest of your body looks like a table - no sagging.)
* Hamstring Ball Curl
* Standing Bent Over 2 Arm DB Row (Bend your knees and do not round your back.)

Rest 30-60 seconds as needed and repeat up to 5 times.

The entire circuit takes approximately 3 minutes. You will not lose 30 pounds in 30 days by doing it. However, if you continue to challenge yourself as you get stronger by increasing the weights and shortening the rest periods, you'll have a handy, effective, quick workout for days when you're short on time or can't get to the gym.

Looking for a fast workout on days you can’t get to the gym? Even without any equipment you can stay active during the busy holiday season. Try this:

Bodyweight Circuit: 10-15 reps of each exercise (or per side if it’s a single leg exercise)

· Good Mornings
· Mountain Climbers
· Standing Alternating Elbow to Opposite Knee
· Prisoner Static Lunge (Also known as Split Squat or Stationary Lunge)

Rest 30-60 seconds as needed and repeat up to 5 times. Each round will take approximately 4-5 minutes.
